Quote(s) of the Day: The water is so beautiful here
Dude! That brown!!!
Notes:
Tryston and I met up with our group at 7am and made our way to the water. We had the river to ourselves for the first few hours, fishing the pools, riffles and shelves. The fish made us work to get them on the line, we only started really hooking up as we sight fished from the bank. It was very crowded and the fish were showing that late summer pickiness. After fishing hard all day we managed to land two fish and had a great day on the water. Tricos and midges were hatching almost all day but our emerger and nymph patterns weren't the ticket, a good drift and perfect presentation is what helped most fooling fish.
Day started off hot with two 16" browns on a size 16 San Juan worm. Dakota got into the fish right away and for being a beginner, she picked it up very well. Gordon showed really big improvements and was super excited about the day on the water improving his casting and hook sets. Gordon landed a great 20" brown at the end of the day to walk away with all smiles.

Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 48-51 degrees and Crystal Clear. The fish have seen a lot of pressure this season and they are getting spooky.   Use light tippet and longer leaders to avoid spooking fish.   This your best bet for good winter days close to Denver and Boulder.   What a fantastic season it was. Fly fishing trips and reports have been great this year. Winter is just about to arrive.   The fishing is slow.
